Klapmuts is an old Dutch word for the 18th century ‘cocked’ hat that folded away into the saddle back pocket. When observed from a distance, the hill resembles such a hat and this explains how the rural, undulating farmland region between Paarl and Stellenbosch got its name.
One of the best-known attractions in Klapmuts is Butterfly World which offers visitors the opportunity to observe butterflies in all the stages of their life-cycle as well as enjoying the gorgeous sight of thousands of brightly-coloured creatures flitting around the indoor observation areas filled with plants.
Several well-known wine estates can be found in Klapmuts and it is placed conveniently in the heart of wine country making it the perfect location to stay while exploring the Winelands all around.
