The Orange River, known as Garieb by the San, comprises 2250 km of sea-bound water – one of Africa’s longest rivers. Through Book Cape Town you can travel down 55 km of this twisting waterway as it snakes through the remote and beautiful Richtersveld area.
The Trip
The 4-day Orange River trip follows a basic itinerary as follows, although there may be variations depending on individual circumstances.
Day One
Your group needs to arrive at the Wild Thing base camp from 17h00 onwards. Your guides will meet and greet you and an informal fireside evening meal will be served from 20h00. This is a good time to relax, ask questions and mingle with fellow trippers.
Day Two
After an early breakfast you will be shown how to pack your raft and undergo a briefing on safety and environmental matters before embarking on the trip of a lifetime. The guides serve lunch, and later dinner, on the riverbank. The guests can enjoy sundowners and snacks before a hearty evening meal around the fire, then fall asleep under the African night sky
Day Three and Day Four
The itinerary continues along the same lines as Day Two.
Day Five
After a good breakfast you will spend your last morning on the river, ending at a pick-up point where transport waits to take the group back to base camp. A quick lunch and a hot shower precede last goodbyes.
