The Cape coastline is rugged and varied. Open sandy stretches are bookended by boulder and pebble beaches and plunging cliffs. River mouths, estuaries and lagoons break the coast.
In addition to this geographical diversity the coast is also the site of a rich cultural heritage.
Less obvious than the drama of the natural beauty, the history requires patience and knowledge if you wish to tease out the secrets of the ancient people who once called these shores home. The ancient ‘strandlopers’ or beach walkers were the earliest dwellers of the shores around the Cape.
On this journey we help you travel back in time – our expert archaeologist guides will teach you to read the hidden history found in shell middens, cave paintings and fossils.
On the tour we will visit sites featuring ancient fish traps masterfully engineered to catch fish during dark moon spring tides, prehistoric middens, cave sites and paintings, and we’ll explore the West Coast Fossil Park. |
