The Itinerary
DAILY: PRIVATE DEPARTURES

08:30 Collection from Cape Town Hotel
The Bo-Kaap

Start the day with a drive through Bo-Kaap to discover the rich cultural history and unique culture, lifestyle and personality of the area. The community was formerly known as the Malay Quarter, and this picturesque corner of Cape Town is well-known for its vast collection of colourful houses and cobble stone streets which were a result of the influence of the Cape Muslim community and many freed slaves after the abolition of slavery in 1834.

Table Mountain National Park

Arrive at Table Mountain National Park for a tour of the profound landmark that has become a symbol of Cape Town culture (weather permitting; cable car fee not included). Declared as one of the seven wonders of the world, Table Mountain offers panoramic views over the Mother City and the Atlantic Seaboard with Robben Island lying sleepily in Table Bay Harbour. After decent, head towards the iconic Company Gardens.

Company Gardens

The park and heritage site was originally established in the early 1650s by the European Settlers arriving in the area. The gardens provided fresh fruit and vegetables to the ships seeking replenishment when rounding the Cape on their journey to the East. The Gardens now offer a natural retreat from the bustle of the City. Finish your tour of the Company Gardens with a stop at the South African Museum which houses a variety of important African zoology, palaeontology and archaeology collections.

South African National Gallery

After the South African Museum, continue onto the South African National Gallery which houses outstanding collections of South African, British, French, Dutch and Flemish art. Regular exhibitions enable the museum to have a full program of temporary exhibitions of paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, bead-work, textiles and architecture that provide insight into the extraordinary range of aesthetic production in this country, the African continent and further afield.

The Cape Gallery

En route to the Cape Gallery you would pass significant buildings such as the National Library, Cape Town Parliament and St Georgeu2019s Cathedral. The Cape Gallery is set in the heart of the old city off the Church Street walking mall flanked by colourful Georgian and Dutch facades. Here you will find some of the oldest and prestigious galleries, antique shops and auction houses in Cape Town. Central to the tradition of South African painting is the abiding love of the land. Early Cape painters were 'reporters' who described the topography, flora and fauna of this fascinating land, a conservative approach which is still flavoured by the gallery's clients today. Recently the emergence of the vibrant street art has added an essentially African character to the work on display. Tour ends with drop off at hotel in the afternoon.
