The Itinerary
DAILY: PRIVATE DEPARTURES
07:00 Collection from Cape Town Hotel
Table Mountain National Park
The tour commences with collection from your hotel and transfer to the lower cable car station at Table Mountain. Meet your accredited walking/ hiking guide and begin the hike up the easiest and most direct route to the top of Table Mountain; Platteklip Gorge. The first established trail up Table Mountain, Platteklip follows a well-constructed trail up a deep ravine on the iconic front face of the mountain, passing cascading streams at the base and imposing rock that converges near the top. The route tops out near the upper cable station. After ascent, traverse the length of the famous table top summit to the highest point on the mountain Maclears Beacon at 1087m for more breathtaking views of Cape Town City, the Waterfront and beyond. Once you descend the mountain by cable car (weather permitting), transfer to the colourful Bo-Kaap.
Bo-Kaap
Arrive in the colourful community of the Bo-Kaap. Formerly known as the Malay Quarter, this picturesque corner of Cape Town well-known for its vast collection of colourful houses and cobble stone streets, became home to the Cape Muslim community and many freed slaves after the abolition of slavery in 1834. Take a walk to explore the rich cultural history and unique culture, lifestyle and personality of the area before making your way to the Company Gardens.
The Company Gardens
The park and heritage site was originally established in the early 1650s by the European Settlers arriving in the area. The gardens provided fresh fruit and vegetables to the ships seeking replenishment when rounding the Cape on their journey to the East. The Gardens now offer a natural retreat from the bustle of the City. Finish your tour of the Company Gardens with a stop at the South African Museum which houses a variety of important African zoology, palaeontology and archaeology collections.
The Castle of Good Hope
Continue your city tour with a stop at the Castle of Good Hope. Built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East Indian Company (VOC) as a maritime replenishment store, the Castle of Good Hope is the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa. The drive through the city will also take you past the Houses of Parliament, the Grand Parade and City Hall; from where Nelson Mandela first addressed South Africans after his release in February 1990. The tour ends with drop off at your hotel.
