Directions:

The 75 000 hectare Malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve lies in the extreme north-west corner of South Africa’s North West province.
Whether you fly directly to Jaci’s Lodges on one of the daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg to Madikwe or decide to do a self-drive, Jaci’s Lodges is easily accessible by both road and air.
Daily flights are available on Federal Airways. We can arrange a private road transfer, a charter flight upon request at additional costs.
Flight Times: OR Tambo International to Madikwe East: 55 minutes
Northern Sabi Sand to Madikwe East: 1.5 hours
Madikwe East to Jaci's Lodges is a 15 minute drive
Self Drive: Johannesburg: 4 hours (See driving directions on last page)
  Sun City: 1.5 hours
  Gaborone: 2 hours
  Rustenburg: 2 hours
  Derdepoort / Sekwane Border Post: 1 hour

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

* We do not recommend using a GPS to get to Jaci’s Lodges, please instead make use of the directions provided.
    * All gates into Madikwe Game Reserve open at 06h00 and close at 16h00.
    * Guests arriving or departing outside these times will require an escort to the lodge, this must be pre- arranged with Jaci’s Lodges and has an additional cost per escorted trip:
    *   Molatedi Gate: R500.00 per vehicle / escort
    *   Derdepoort Gate: R750.00 per vehicle / escort
    *   Abjaterskop Gate: R1250.00 per vehicle / escort
    * Information required for self-drive and road transfers:
    *   Guest names and contact details
    *   Transfer company name and contact details
    *   Estimated time of arrival

    * Due to sporadic / unforeseen road closures, we recommend self-drive guests confirm their intended driving route on their day of arrival and check local road conditions before their departure / arrival.


SELF-DRIVE DIRECTIONS FROM OR TAMBO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO JACI’S LODGES


It is approximately a 3.5-hour drive to the lodge. We advise that you refuel at Sun Village, as there is no fuel available inside the reserve.

  • Directly after leaving the airport, look out for the sign saying R21 PRETORIA / KEMPTON PARK.
  • The sign will be on your left with the turn-off very soon after leaving the Airport, so keep a sharp lookout.
  • Follow the signs to PRETORIA & N1 PIETERSBERG / POLOKWANE
  • After approximately 36km you will see large signs over the highway, follow the direction PRETORIA & N1 PIETERSBERG / POLOKWANE / NORTH
  • Turn onto this highway (you are now travelling in a northerly direction)
  • After passing a number of off-ramps, you will see signs for a toll road called BAKWENYA PLATINUM HIGHWAY / N4 / RUSTENBURG
  • Take this toll road.
  • Once on the N4, continue in the Rustenburg direction & take EXIT 225, which is the R556 / SUN CITY / MAJAKANENG off- ramp.
  • Turn right at the top of the off ramp & continue straight to SUN CITY.
  • Sun City is approximately 73km from this off-ramp.
  • It is advisable to fill up with fuel at the Sun Village, just after the Sun City entrance on the right.
  • After passing Sun City and the Sun Village on the right, continue straight until you reach a four-way junction.
  • Turn right to DERDEPOORT.

From here, there are two route options:
OPTION A (Recommended route)

  • Follow the R565 road for approximately 39.4km & turn left at KAYAKULU.
  • Continue straight along the D548 road for 24.8km until you reach a T-JUNCTION.
  • Please note: This T-Junction is not marked & there are no warning signs that you are approaching it.
  • Turn Right at the T-Junction onto a tar / sealed road that continues for about 10.4km & then becomes gravel / dirt
  • The DWARSBERG LIQUOR STORE will be on your left, continue straight along the gravel road towards MOLATEDI VILLAGE (do not take the next Derdepoort turning to the right, continue straight)
  • Pass through MOLATEDI VILLAGE, over the MARICO RIVER & straight to the MOLATEDI GATE entrance into MADIKWE GAME RESERVE.
  • From here the friendly gate staff can give you directions, or just follow the signs to JACI’S LODGES.

OPTION B (Alternative route)

  • Follow the road for approximately 8km, you will need to turn left at the sign saying BAPONG.
  • Continue straight along this road (Please ignore all signs saying Madikwe Hospital / Madikwe Village)
  • After passing through MABIESKRAAL, approximately 45km, you will come to a 4 way stop.
  • Turn right to DERDEPOORT. This tar / sealed road continues for about 25km & then becomes gravel / dirt.
  • The DWARSBERG LIQUOR STORE will be on your left, continue straight along the gravel road towards MOLATEDI VILLAGE (do not take the next Derdepoort turning to the right, continue straight)
  • Pass through MOLATEDI VILLAGE, over the MARICO RIVER & straight to the MOLATEDI GATE entrance into MADIKWE GAME RESERVE.
  • From here the friendly gate staff can give you directions, or just follow the signs to JACI’S LODGES.

PLEASE NOTE

There are brown Jaci’s Safari Lodge / Jaci’s Tree Lodge & Madikwe Game Reserve signs at various points along the way.
A GPS will not bring you directly to Jaci’s Lodges if utilised from ORT / JHB / Pretoria or Sun City.
Please ignore all signs saying Madikwe Hospital or Madikwe Village along the Mabeskraal Road.
Please advise the lodge of your estimated time of arrival & check the afternoon game drive schedules to ensure you will be on time.
Please drive carefully & be aware of village pedestrians, children & animals.

 

SELF-DRIVE DIRECTIONS FROM GABORONE

  • Gaborone-Tlokweng: Take the road from the city centre to the Tlokweng border post.
  • Once customs and immigration formalities have been completed, continue in the direction of Zeerust.
  • After approximately 10km you will see the Abjaterskop gate entrance into Madikwe.
  • From here follow the signs to Jaci’s Lodges (approximately a two-hour drive with a 50-minute drive through the reserve)
  • Gaborone-Sikwane: Take the Francistown road.
  • Look out for the road to Odie on the right and continue through Odie (this road starts as tar and becomes gravel) to a T- junction where you turn right.
  • Once customs and immigration formalities have been completed at Sikwane, continue in the direction of Derdepoort.
  • You will pass the Derdepoort General Dealer on the left, continue to a four-way stop and go straight to the Derdepoort gate entrance to the Madikwe Game Reserve.
  • From here follow the signs to Jaci’s Lodges (approximately a two-hour drive, with a 50-minute drive through the reserve)

Flight durations

  • From OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg with Federal Air: approx 55-minute flight
  • From Cheetah Plains or Jaci’s Sabi House in Sabi Sand with Unique Air: approx 90-minute flight
  • From Cape Town to Gaborone with Air Botswana: approx 120-minute flight
  • From Kasane to Gaborone with Air Botswana: approx 120-minute flight
  • Private charters and transfers via helicopter arranged on request.
  • Car hire available at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg
  • Road transfers from all airports directly to Jaci’s Lodges arranged on request

Important info about private flights and charters

  • Landing-strip fees, Reserve entrance fees and fuel levies are payable per person for use of the airstrip, and will be added to your invoice when booking
  • There is a strict baggage allowance of 20kg per person (soft bag*) on all scheduled flights and private charters
  • All OR Tambo International Airport connecting flights must land/depart at least two hours (three hours for international flights) before/after the scheduled private charter-flight departure/arrival time to allow for possible delays
  • All flights are subject to weather conditions
  • Should a flight not be possible, a road transfer will be arranged
  • Private pilots must request, sign and return the indemnity form from Jaci’s Lodges before landing on the eastern airstrip in Madikwe
  • Surface tar length:1 500m
  • Elevation: 1 158m
  • *Not all airlines accept rigid cases, so it is advisable to carry a small duffel bag or soft case in your main suitcase for your time at Jaci’s Lodges. You can pack your soft bag with your clothing and other equipment for your safari, and leave the hard case at the airline offices for collection on your return
